A 75 year old man in the intensive care rehabilitation department of a tertiary hospital in Heilongjiang Province was hospitalized due to a car accident that left him paralyzed. He underwent tracheotomy and was conscious but did not have the ability to cough. He usually had a moderate amount of sputum, but due to long-term bed rest, his lung function declined and he became atelectasis.
